That’s No Moon, the band that’s created and performed new Dragnet Mag theme songs for every issue trailer, has a new album, Houses of the Future Family. You can’t buy it in a physical form yet, but you can certainly listen to all the songs on their website. The song embedded here is “The New Misogynist Has No Fun At A Rodeo,” but please click through; they’re all good and worth listening to over and over, especially if you like any Elephant Six artists like Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, or Apples in Stereo.

Here’s what member James Hahn has to say about the band and about the fact that lots of people seem to compare them to Elephant Six: 

Band members: James Hahn, Josh Hewson, Erin Snow. The rapper we worked with on “That’s Not Us” is a sweet kid named Ben Globerman, who’d probably hate the thought of being referred to as “a sweet kid.” He now records under the name Sampson.

As for the Elephant Six influence … we get compared to Elephant Six bands more often than anything else, but have never really understood why. It’s a massive (though far from specific) compliment. There are so many great bands & writing/ recording aesthetics to choose from! In terms of our particular E6 influences, I can say that we’re all are huge fans of Neutral Milk Hotel and of Montreal, and that Erin and I really like Olivia Tremor Control and The Apples In Stereo. I’ve also got a soft-spot for Elf Power and Beulah, but who doesn’t?

All of the songs are written by Josh and myself, but Erin gets the lion’s share of the credit when it comes to their final sound. She’s also responsible for all of the artwork for the band, which—like the recording and production—is done in-house.

I am a pop enthusiast, but Josh is more of a classical kid. If our sound is in any way schizophrenic, this might be why.
